21 st IEEE Conference on Business Informatics (IEEE CBI 2019)

This is the conference of one of the most influential professional organizations in the field of modern technologies - Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), whose motto is “Advancing Technology for Humanity”. This conference has been held in Russia for the first time. The main organizer is the National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE).

Business informatics is a field of research and practical activity, which is building the sphere of business engineering and combining various spheres of knowledge including digital technologies, informatics, economics and management.

The main topic at the conference was concentrated on the digital transformation, modern digital technologies and their influence on the business development. The conference tracks covered the most topical subjects such as: digital innovations and digital transformation of enterprises, big data and business analytics, industry 4.0., artificial intelligence and its application in business, modeling an enterprise architecture and business process management.

A program committee of the conference consisted of more than 200 Russian and foreign experts in the field of Business Informatics (including representatives from the HSE). For example, Dirk Meissner, a professor of the Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge was a co-chair of the “Business Innovations and Digital Transformation” Track.   

Dmitry Novikov, a correspondent member of RAS (Russian Academy of Science), director of the Institute of Control Sciences, and Jörg Becker, a director of the European Research Center for Information Systems (ERCIS), a professor at University of Münster (Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster), were the co-chairs of the Program committee. Jörg Becker is also an Honorary Professor at HSE.

Prof. Svetlana Maltseva (Head of HSE School of Business Informatics) and Prof. Ulrich Frank (director of the Institute for Computer Science and Business Information Systems at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany) headed the work of the General organizing committee.

Mikhail Komarov, PhD, a professor at the department of innovations and business in IT, HSE School of Business Informatics, was a chair of the Organizing committee; Vasily Kornilov, an associate professor at the HSE School of Business Informatics, was a co-chair.

One of the most important parts of the conference included a Doctoral Consortium – a special program for young researchers studying at the PhD programs. This Consortium was organized by Prof. Hans-Georg Fill (University of Fribourg, Switzerland), working in the field of digitalization and informational systems and Prof. Oscar Pastor, director of the “Centro de Investigación en Métodos de Producción de Software (PROS)” at the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia (Spain).

The program of workshop series was formed by Olga Tsukanova, Workshop chair, an associate professor at the School of Business Informatics. The great interest was attracted by the BI 4.0. Workshop (Business Informatics 4.0.), related to the integration of the traditional business informatics topics in the structure of the Industry 4.0. 

 More than 90 participants out of 23 countries came to Moscow.

There were 10 tracks at the conference. Besides, there were organized a series of workshops and a doctoral consortium for young researchers. 

The keynote presentations were made by representatives of scientific and professional communities and governmental structures. Among them were:

-      Vasily Slyshkin, a director of Architecture and IT Governance Department of Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation;

-      Alexander Maedche, a director of the Karlsruhe Service Research Institute (KSRI);

-      Alexey Golosov, a president of the company “FORS – Development Center”;

-      Arnaud Trousset, the founder and general director at Rilos (Rilos – Geomatrix);

-      Artem Levchenko, a business architect at SAP CIS company;

-      Artem Sedov, a founder and a general director at the Russian production company “Big Three”, the Deputy Head of the Expert Council on energy efficiency under the Ministry of construction and housing and communal services of the Russian Federation.

 The conference was sponsored by the IEEE Technical Committee on Business Informatics and Systems and SAP.

Among the media partners were: Information and Computer Technologies Industry Association (APKIT), the Russian Network Publication First National, a Global CIO portal, ICTONLINE portal, Сейчас.ru, “Business Excellence” Journal, Expomap (Business events Finder), Agency of economical information “Прайм”, Expotrade.ru, “Business Informatics” Journal and the International Agency of Congress Management (МАКО).

The great present for the conference participants was represented by a reception with a tour, which was organized by the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts within a cultural program.

All support of the conference and its participants was organized by the International Agency of Congress Management (МАКО) and volunteer students studying at the “Business Informatics” programs. Their work was highly assessed by the participants. The students have also prepared a slide-show with the sights of Moscow for the Opening Ceremony.
